Rhinoplasty

RHINOPLASTY

The nose, being in the center of the face, plays a very important role in the balance and harmony of the rest of the facial structures, thus contributing to form a beautiful face.

What is it?

Rhinoplasty or nose surgery is an operation for aesthetic or functional purposes in which we can change the appearance, structure and size of the nose or improve functions, either to improve health and breathing or to improve the proportion and facial harmony.

What are the indications?

Each patient has different reasons for nose surgery, in general this is done to:

  • Improve the shape, length or angle of the nose.
  • Balance the nose proportion to the rest of the face.
  • Correct breathing problems.
  • Deviated or fractured nose.
  • Decrease the width of the nostrils.
  • Correct birth defects.

What is the procedure for nose surgery?

If you are thinking of having a rhinoplasty you must take into account the whole process that you will go through to get the right results.

  • The first thing is to make an assessment appointment, where we will evaluate the characteristics of your nose, its shape, the thickness of the skin, the asymmetries, the characteristics of the cartilage, its proportion to the facial architecture, once this data is collected, we can determine how the surgery will be performed and the results that can be obtained, as each surgery must be designed according to the needs of each patient.
  • Preoperative laboratory exams are necessary before surgery.
  • A nose surgery lasts between one and two hours and is performed under general anesthesia. During surgery, incisions are made inside the nose through which it is sculpted until the desired shape is obtained. Once the surgery is finished, a plastic splint is placed, which is molded with heat until the desired shape is obtained and serves us to maintain the proper position during the consolidation and healing process.

What's recovery like?

Patient care after surgery is just as important as using the right techniques to ensure the best results.

  • As it is an outpatient procedure, the patient will be discharged a few hours after the procedure is finished.
  • In general, during the first 24 hours you will feel the face a little swollen and have a headache. To reduce these discomforts the corresponding medications will be prescribed.
  • From the second day bruises may be observed under the eyes.
  • The plastic splint should be used for at least one week, then a soft splint is placed that we must use until we complete three weeks and serves to avoid blows and to properly seal the new shape of the nose.
  • You can usually return to your normal activities within 5-7 days with some special recommendations.

When will I be able to see the results?

The final results of a rhinoplasty are observed in up to 8 months. However, after the fifth week we can observe 80% of them.
